Caernarfon, in north east Wales, has a higher proportion of Welsh speakers than any other seat in the principality. Over three-quarters of the population speak the language. Represented by Plaid Cymru's leader Dafydd Wigley since 1974, this must be considered Plaid's greatest stronghold. Independent and proud, the voters here will continue to assert their distinct identity.
