The cathedral city of Canterbury in the heart of Kent, together with the old-fashioned resort of Whitstable, make up the fairly safe Conservative seat of Canterbury. The Liberal Democrats come second and have done very well in recent local elections. They might hope, that if only they could engineer enough tactical voting from traditional Labour supporters, a famous victory could be possible, but this looks like a long shot.
