The urban landscape of Ellesmere Port and Neston, along the south shore of the River Mersey, is heavily industrial. However, the constituency cuts across the southern end of the Wirral peninsula, and includes many affluent commuter villages. Labour won the seat in 1992 and today the seat would have to be considered marginal if the Conservatives were to improve on their 1992 position, however unlikely that may seem at the time of writing.
