Downstream from Glasgow on the Firth of Clyde, Greenock and Inverclyde contains the industrial town as well as other coastal communities to the west. There has been a growth of some high technology industry here to replace more traditional heavy industry and create something of a 'silicon coast'. The Liberal Democrats have had some success in local politics in Greenock, but this remains essentially traditional Labour territory, and should be safe for Scottish Labour.
