Greenwich and Woolwich, in south-east London, contains the whole of the former Greenwich seat, plus a few wards from Woolwich. Both seats were unusual, having been the last strongholds in parliament for the Social Democrats. With the exception of the smart neighbourhoods around Blackheath and the gentrified terraces at the heart of Greenwich, most of the seat has all the characteristics of a fairly typical Inner London constituency. Now that the Social Democrat challenge has gone the area should revert to its traditional Labour loyalties and Labour MP Nick Raynsford should now be fairly safe in what looks like being a good year for his party.
