It should be no surprise that Hackney North and Stoke Newington is held safely by Labour MP Diane Abbott. The London Borough of Hackney is one of the most deprived in the capital, and although the northern of Hackney's two constituencies, it is slightly less homogeneously 'inner-city' in its characteristics, although the majority of voters here still turn out for Labour. Over a third of the electorate is non-white, and the seat also includes London's most conspicuous Orthodox Jewish community, in Stamford Hill, where the Conservatives collect many of their votes in local elections.
