The heavy industrial towns of Widnes and Runcorn, the latter of which also includes much 'New Town' overspill housing, combine to create the parliamentary constituency of Halton. This is the safest Labour seat in Cheshire. Straddling the upper reaches of the Mersey estuary, there are few areas of Conservative strength here, and Labour should hold the seat easily.
