East Hertfordshire is a very Conservative part of England. The four main towns in Hertford and Stortford are Bishops Stortford, Hertford, Ware and Sawbridgeworth. All are prosperous market towns with buoyant service economies. The Liberal Democrats come a distant second to the Conservatives, and Labour, who actually represented part of this area prior to 1979 when Shirley Williams was the member for Hertford and Stevenage, are now a distant third.
