Some of the most affluent residential areas in the Home Counties are to be found in Hertfordshire South West - it includes well-heeled Tory-voting communities like Berkhamsted, Rickmansworth and Chorleywood. In 1971, Chorleywood was listed as the most middle-class town in England, with 78 per cent working in non-manual occupations - the figure will be higher now. The large (ex-Greater London Council) estate at South Oxhey sticks out as a Labour-voting anomaly that does little to challenge Tory MP Richard Page's massive majority.
