The Yorkshire woollen town of Huddersfield, in the populous metropolitan district of Kirklees, contributes its more affluent western suburbs to the adjacent seat of Colne Valley, leaving the town's main constituency safely in the hands of Labour MP Barry Sheerman. There is some local Liberal Democrat activity but they make little impact in parliamentary elections in this part of Huddersfield, and Labour can expect to remain in secure control.
