Huntingdon once returned one of England's most notable parliamentary leaders, but it is many centuries since Oliver Cromwell represented the town. Prime Minister, John Major, now holds the constituency with a commanding majority. This dynamic part of Cambridgeshire has seen significant population growth in recent decades, with the expansion of substantial and prosperous private housing estates, particularly around St. Neot's, which is now within this redrawn constituency. Whatever the Conservative Party's overall fortunes, John Major will be back safely.
