This newly drawn constituency links the town centres of Kingston upon Thames and New Malden to the whole of the former constituency of Surbiton. Although the Liberal Democrats have done well in recent local elections in Kingston, the new seat brings in far too much true blue suburbia for the Lib Dems to hope to translate this into success in Westminster elections. Kingston and Surbiton remains a safe Conservative seat.
