The most extensive and comfortable suburbs of Leeds lie to the north of the city within the constituencies of Leeds North West and Leeds North East. Of these, Leeds North West may be the safer Conservative seat. It stretches from the terraces and Victorian mansions of Headingley to the council estate at Tinshill and the suburbs of Cookridge and Weetwood, and then beyond, across country, to Otley and Wharfedale. Tory MP Dr Keith Hampson stands well short of an overall majority of the vote, but with an opposition vote equally split between Labour and the Liberal Democrats, he seems likely to hang on to his seat in the House of Commons.
