Labour's Harry Cohen has represented the essentially inner London seat of Leyton since 1983. Boundary changes have shifted the centre of Leyton and Wanstead, successor to the old seat, closer to London's suburbs. There are areas of both Conservative and Liberal Democrat strength, but this split in the non-Labour vote merely has the effect of improving Labour hold on the constituency.
