The Scottish New Town seat of Livingston looks safe for Labour's Robin Cook. As in much of Central Scotland, the SNP has made some advances in the past decade and moved into second place as the main challengers to Labour in 1992. Although Cook held on to significantly less than half the vote at that election the opposition was split. He will only be seriously threatened by the Nationalists this time if there is a major upset in the order of things in Central Scotland.
