As in several seats in the rural West Midlands, followers of past general elections will recall Ludlow as having been one of a handful of Conservative constituencies where the Liberals looked as if they might break through in the 1980s. However, they failed to do so, and has often been the case with such local Liberal revivals, the momentum now seems to have been lost. The Liberal Democrats will should remain the main challengers, but the electors of this beautiful English countryside seat will probably remain loyal to their Tory MP.
