Located to the south of Edinburgh, Midlothian is made up of a network of small traditional industrial and former coal-mining towns. This looks like natural territory for the Labour Party, but as in much of Central Scotland, the Scottish Nationalists have made advances in recent years. However, they still have some distance to go to seriously challenge Labour, so, short of major Scottish upsets, Labour's Eric Clarke should be home and dry.
