The seat of Newcastle Upon Tyne Central does not contain that city's inner city core, but is centred to the north of the traditional centre. It is fairly mixed in terms of its residential make-up, with some quite affluent suburban streets, poorer council housing, and also the city's student area around Jesmond. In very good years for the Conservatives it might be a Tory target seat, but Labour hold it fairly safely and will consider themselves secure in the current political climate.
