Ogmore, in the south-west of the South Wales industrial valleys, consists of a typical network of close-knit and very traditional working-class former mining communities. That minority of the electorate who cast their votes for the Conservatives in the privacy of the polling booth are unlikely to boast about it along the streets of terraced housing where voting Labour is a matter of confirming one's identity with the community. Labour's massive majorities will continue.
