Reigate, in solid Conservative Surrey, could be predictable and boring - a Tory victor with the Liberal Democrats a distant second, but harbouring unrealistic local fantasies about winning. However, national interest has been generated by the fate of sitting right-wing MP, George Gardiner. Deselected, at the time of writing, by his local constituency party, but apparently fighting on, the prospects of local Tory divisions will further excite local Liberal Democrat ambitions. This remains a long shot for anyone other than the Conservatives, but watch this space.
