Essentially a new seat, Romsey is created from parts of four former constituencies, but all of these component parts share a common allegiance to the Conservatives. Affluent villages and some very exclusive modern private housing estates, together with the prosperous market town of Romsey, have created an extremely safe Tory seat, albeit at the price of weakening the Conservative hold on some of the adjacent constituencies. Containing 'Broadlands', home of the late Lord Mountbatten, where Her Majesty the Queen spent her honeymoon night, the Conservative reign here is secure.
