The ancient former county of Rutland, England's smallest, lives on, in name, in the parliamentary constituency of Rutland and Melton, even though many of its rolling acres are now submerged beneath the waves of Rutland Water, a large and fairly recently created reservoir. Rutland is now part of Leicestershire, and this large and very agricultural seat to the east of the county must be considered safely Conservative.
