This seat in the great southern Welsh industrial city of Swansea, was actually a Labour-Tory marginal until 1983, when Conservative seaside town of Mumbles was moved to the Gower constituency (which then became the marginal). Several areas of Swansea West still vote Conservative, but they are heavily outgunned by Swansea's council estates and the central areas. The Tories won the seat once, in 1959, but their chances are long gone, and veteran Labour MP Alan Williams is sitting pretty.
