The South Devon seat of Teignbridge covers the coast between the rivers of Dart and Exe (between Torbay and Exmouth) and its hinterland. It is centred on the river Teign, which enters the English Channel at the resort of Teignmouth. The divisions largest town is Newton Abbot and includes another seaside and retirement community, Dawlish, and, inland, some of the prettiest scenery in Britain, near the eastern escarpment of Dartmoor, around Moretonhampstead and Bovey Tracey.
Patrick Nicholls has held the seat since 1983, though there is a substantial Liberal Democrat minority which garnered over 22,000 votes in 1992.
In the boundary changes enacted in time for the election, Teignbridge loses some electors, and gains an almost equal number.
The boundary changes will make no substantive difference, and Teignbridge remains an outside Lib Dem hope in a very bad year for the Conservatives.
