Two of the five seats in Warwickshire changed hands in 1992: Nuneaton, regained by Labour after its loss in 1983, and this seat, created in 1983, which Labour won for the first time. Warwickshire North was always considered a good bet for Labour, consisting largely of old industrial communities scattered around the former Warwickshire coalfield. Labour's Mike O'Brien must be a favourite to hold this in 1997.
