South Yorkshire's Wentworth constituency is named after a country house and park that is now an adult education centre. This countrified and aristocratic territory to the north-west of the constituency is, however, untypical of the gritty, working-class and industrial character of the rest of the seat as a whole. Coal once dominated life here; its decline as a source of employment has ruined the local economy. Both effects help to ensure that Wentworth will remain one of Labour's very safest seats. Local MP Peter Hardy will emphatically not be looking over his shoulder.
