Wokingham extends round the south side of Reading and includes the populous new housing estates to the east of Reading in Earley. After a decade of rapid expansion among the area's many owner-occupied communities, this constituency looks totally safe for John Redwood, standard bearer for some factions on the Conservative right wing. Liberal Democrats, although strong in some local elections, come a distant second in general elections, and this is barren territory for any Labour candidate with a parliamentary calling.
