The new seat of Charnwood is created by taking electors from four former Leicestershire seats. However, the constituency is not huge, and curls around the north side of the City of Leicester. The communities that make up the seat are all broadly similar, being middle-class and owner-occupied suburban areas, associated economically with Leicester itself. The overall effect to make this a very safe Conservative seat.
