Euro-sceptic Iain Duncan-Smith replaced Tory hard man Norman Tebbit as MP for Chingford in 1992 and should be returned safely as MP for the new seat of Chingford and Woodford Green. Located in north east London, around the southern tip of Epping Forest, where the M11 motorway joins the North Circular Road, this is lower-middle class, as opposed to affluent, suburbia. The culturally conservative and homogeneous electorate are not given to risky flirtations with more radical politics and the Tories can view this as a safe seat.
