The traditional Scottish industrial city of Dundee lies on the Firth of Tay, well north of Scotland's central industrial belt. However, voting patterns in Dundee West closely mirror those found in industrial Strathclyde. Labour come in clear winners with well over the half the vote, while the SNP overtook the Conservative candidate in 1992 to move into a fairly distant second place.
