Salford is the less well-known inner Metropolitan borough that is carved into the western side of Manchester. The traditional industrial heritage prescribes the mood and culture of Salford and it is unsurprising that the Salford constituency of Eccles, running alongside the Manchester Ship Canal, is strongly Labour. There are pockets of Conservative support, but not sufficient to be a threat to Labour.
