In a city where local problems of social deprivation are frequently encountered, the north-eastern Glasgow constituency of Glasgow Baillieston contains some of the most serious and intractable. The incidence of unemployment, low educational achievement and single parent households in several areas of peripheral and inner-city council housing are among the highest in the country. There are better areas such as Mount Vernon, but the overall profile will lead to a substantial and safe majority for the Labour candidate.
