The comfortable market towns of Grantham and Stamford, set in the gentle uplands in the south-east of Lincolnshire, are the main centres of population in this new constituency, which also runs down to the east to the Lincolnshire Fens. Grantham is the more light industrial of the two towns, being located on the mainline railway that bypasses more rustic Stamford, and it is in Grantham that the more Labour inclined electorate is found. However, rural Lincolnshire is all generally very safe Conservative territory, and this seat should be no exception.
