As well as the ferry port of Harwich, this constituency includes the retirement resorts of Clacton, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze, which combine to produce a seat with a very elderly overall age profile. The Conservative's Ian Sproat commands about 50 per cent of the vote, and with the balance evenly split between Labour and the Liberal Democrats, the Tories must be considered secure.
