Hemsworth, Featherstone, South Kirkby and South Elmsall, at the heart of the Yorkshire coalfield, irretrievably set the tone in this West Yorkshire seat. The voters of Wakefield's most Conservative suburban villages, who have been joined to this redrawn constituency, must wonder what they have done to deserve their fate. Hemsworth will remain safe for Labour.
