The unfamiliar constituency name of Hertsmere embraces the communities of Potter's Bar, Bushey, Borehamwood and Elstree, in the north London greenbelt. This affluent commuter belt is also home to many corporate headquarters, and the economy is very buoyant. Notwithstanding an extensive former GLC overspill estate in Borehamwood, which retains a strong residual Labour loyalty, the overall pattern of voting sees the Tories romping home with safe majorities.
