The new seat of Knowsley North and Sefton East is dominated by the grim 1950s council estates of Kirkby, which is very solidly Labour. To this are added smaller commuter villages beyond Liverpool's boundary and areas of modern private family housing in Maghull, with Conservative and Liberal Democrat allegiances. This gives the constituency a very socially divided character, but, numerically, the Labour heritage of Kirkby totally dominates to create a safe Labour seat.
