Leicester South is politically and socially very divided. The peripheral areas include Leicester's most prosperous residential areas, but also substantial estates of local authority housing, the university, and the whole of Leicester's city centre, with a very large Asian community. On balance, the working-class and inner-city areas predominate, and this should be viewed as a safe Labour seat for MP Jim Marshall.
