Garston, in the south-east of the City of Liverpool, does contain some of that city's more attractive inner-city suburbs, but this is more than balanced by the sprawling council estate of Speke and the problem estates of Netherley. On rather different boundaries the Conservatives won around here in 1979, but this should now be considered a safe seat for Labour.
