Newcastle-under-Lyme offers quite a diverse constituency profile, with former coalmining communities, good residential areas, and the modern campus of Keele University. We are here in that part of Staffordshire known as the Potteries, and Labour traditions are strong. The Alliance did well here in the 1980s but failed to unseat Labour, whose MP, Llin Golding, now looks safe.
