Various commuter suburbs beyond the north side of Bristol, such as Thornbury and Almondsbury, and Yate, adjacent to the more traditional market town of Chipping Sodbury, contribute the bulk of the electorate of the new Northavon constituency. These communities grew rapidly during the 1960s and 1970s, and the demographic profile of the constituency is dominated by families that have grown up in the area. This is a comfortable and moderately affluent electorate that seems destined to return another Conservative MP to Westminster.
