To the north of the Firth of Forth, the constituency of Ochil embraces a network of small industrial towns in a former coalmining area between Stirling and Dumfermline. Alva and Alloa, Dollar and Tillicoultry are all Labour fiefdoms, while the main area of Conservative strength is to be found in Loch Leven. There are quite strong SNP traditions in this area, and the Nationalists won the former Clackmannan seat here in the 1970s. Labour should hold in all circumstances except a major SNP revival.
