The remote and rural constituency of Berwick-upon-Tweed, in the far north of England, might almost be expected to be an oddity. It has been held by the Liberal Democrats now for over 20 years. Assiduous work by MP Alan Beith should give him a fair degree of confidence that he will continue to hold off Conservative challenges, but Liberal Democrat seats can often slip away from the party in a most unexpected manner.
