The former coal-mining valleys of South Wales remain as loyalist heartlands for Labour, and Pontypridd is no exception. Being at the edge rather than the heart of the South Wales coalfield area, the Conservatives achieve around 20 per cent of the poll, which counts as respectable for that party hereabouts. This will remain a Labour seat.
