This seat, which stretches along the River Thames in London's East End, may seem predictably, even boringly, Labour. However, modern private housing projects which have been a feature of docklands redevelopment, an ascendant Liberal challenge in the 1980s, and an occasional local flirtation with far right fringe politics, have all kept the Labour Party on their toes here, even if any objective analysis would identify this as safe Labour territory where the party has few worries.
