Rother Valley, occupying the south-eastern corner of South Yorkshire, contains many former coal-mining communities, as well as some more rural and agricultural villages. There are Conservative voters here, but the over-riding Labour tradition in this part of Yorkshire endures beyond the demise of the local collieries, and continues to carry Labour to safe victories.
