County Durham's Sedgefield is best known as being the safe harbour for Labour leader Tony Blair. It is an old mining seat, although the pits are now all closed, and the seat all but envelopes the large town of Darlington. There are rural Tories in this seat, but their votes are easily swamped by the Labour phalanx from the old coalfield, while boundary changes have merely added to Blair's majority. He has much on his mind, but holding his seat is not one of his worries.
