The only safe Tory seat in the borough of Bradford, this returned Sir Marcus Fox with the largest majority in West Yorkshire in 1992 - over 12,000. This is affluent suburban and semi-rural territory, very different from the rest of industrial Bradford. Labour has not won this seat since 1945, and Fox will not be expecting any threat to his long tenure in Shipley this time.
