Aldershot, which advertises itself as 'the home of the British Army', is not only home to a huge army base but also includes Farnborough, home of the eponymous Air Show. This, together with many high tech and defence-related industries means that military interests are important. A significant registered vote among the highly mobile army population does lead to low turn-outs hereabouts in general elections, but the overall affluent population creates a safe Conservative seat with the Liberal Democrats in a not very impressive second place.
