Aldridge-Brownhills, in the north-east of the West Midlands Borough of Walsall, contains both the ex-mining town of Brownhills and also the electorally more populous Aldridge with more middle-class, postwar housing estates. This part of the country has drifted towards the Conservatives over the past two decades and now looks pretty safe for its independently minded Conservative MP Richard Shepherd. It would take more than a 10 per cent swing to Labour for the seat to fall.
